Showdown

"I can't see calling the committee back together to pass an extension...if he vetoes the bill, looks like we will be back on the '49 act." Those are the words of Sen. Tom Harkin in an afternoon press conference.

Meanwhile, Earlier in the day, Agriculture Ed Schafer said President Bush will veto the bill and the Administration would like a two year extension of the current farm bill. And he said the Administration will work to sustain the veto -the veto pen won't be brought out just for political effect. Next week could be one of the more interesting weeks we have seen in farm policy in quite some time.....

Ed Schafer is a shill and his dog and pony show is quickly revealing his true colors. If he was brought on to be a fall guy, now is the time for him to earn his money.

The Executive Branch will soon realize that there are two other branches of government with separate but equal power. They just don't have the expensive PR machine the Hill has. This doesn't mean they will be out-gunned by the veto pens.

I hope he does veto it, and then Congress overrides it. This just shows how out of touch and out of wack Mr. Bush's priorities for this country are. He can spend 2 Billion a month in Iraq supporting people that dont even want us there, but he cant sign a farm bill with wide support in Congress.
