All eyes on Wal-Mart

The annual meeting of Wal-Mart store managers and suppliers is on tap for here in Kansas City this upcoming week, and this feature describes the great anticipation for the company to regain its swagger. Here is the crux of the matter:

The top question now is whether the company will continue a year-and-a-half-old strategy of prying more money from affluent shoppers with trendier products or go back to low-priced basics.

After sending mixed messages in the last couple of years, it appears Wal-Mart wants to go back to its core message that it is the low price leader. Meanwhile, the retailer is starting a two-year process to tailor its stores to its communities. The effort will target six target demographic groups, including such categories as empty nesters, blacks and Hispanics, according to the article.

As Wal-Mart sorts through how it wants to be perceived, I wonder if its well-publicized move toward organic produce will be reevaluated.
