Reporting from Bangkok

Turns out the Internet connection in the Amari Hotel here in Bangkok wasn't working last night when I arrived a little past midnight (exactly 12 hours ahead of Kansas time), which was extremely bothersome. Perhaps the measure of how connected we are is the anxiety felt when it is impossible to connect.

Adding to my consternation was the lack of info at the hotel desk about the AsiaFruit Logistica show, which starts Wednesday. The staff and my mood was much improved this morning. The shuttle bus leaves for the convention center at 9 a.m. I met some HortResearch guys coming down the elevator, so the New Zealand presence figures to be robust.

I came to Bangkok via Minneapolis and when I was waiting for my flight I believe a spotted a member of Congress (the lapel pin was the giveaway) talking to an airport security official and shaking his head. I imagined that their conversation had something to do with the now-infamous incident in a men's room at the airport there, where Sen Craig had his untimely downfall in a sting operation. With Sen. Craig resigning at the end of the month, I wonder if he will go out with guns blazing on the immigration issue.....

I'll check in later with impressions from the show....
