Vol. 1, No. 1

The first ever National Fruit and Vegetable Retail Report was issued by USDA yesterday. Here was the first report:

Advertised Prices for Fruit & Vegetable at Major Retail Supermarket Outlets 10/05 thru 10/11
Grapes were featured heavily across the Nation. Pears, strawberries and apples remained in the top 5 commodities featured this week. Many apple varieties were featured in addition to the Red Delicious including Honey Crisp, McIntosh, Cortland, Fuji and Galas. Red Globe grapes were widely featured along with the red and green seedless grapes. Vegetable ads were higher this week than last. Asparagus, baby carrots, romaine, and yellow onions saw huge increases in featured activity. Tomatoes-on-the vine replaced sweet onions as the lone vegetable representative on the top 5,placing second. Many tailgating and fall decorative items were still featured. Additional seasonal items were also being advertised as well such as pomegranates, cranberries, and tangerines. Many organic items were featured including apples, pears, onions, potatoes, grapes, celery hearts, lettuces, Asian pears, peppers, and spinach.

TK: Well done, USDA. There is a ton more statistical data on the 7-page report. I would like to see the report published in Excel format, however, for easier manipulation and transfer of data.
