Retailers with ads breaking early in the week continued to promote Halloween goods and party items. In addition, many retailers were highlighting a wide variety of seasonal produce, especially many types of apples, squash, and other Fall vegetables. Some retailers were beginning their efforts to draw in Thanksgiving shoppers by advertising Turkey promotions and prepared meal solutions for the holiday. Overall this week, fresh produce ads were down more than 6%. Vegetable ads decreased by more than 17% compared to last week. Fruit ad activity, however, was up more than 9% over last week. The top 5 featured items were: pears, asparagus, grapes, tomatoes OTV, and avocados. Many seasonal items not regularly captured in this report were featured quite heavily. Of these, the most notable were a variety of apples, pears, and squash.
