Putnam County School District Creates New Cafeteria Recipes from First Student & Family Recipe Contest … Recipes featured in school menu and first recipe book

Palatka, FL – Putnam County School District’s School Nutrition Services has always been focused on increasing student lunch participation.  Who better to ask, but the customer!  For the past year, students from one of the district’s high schools participated in school nutrition focus groups.  They were asked what they wanted to eat for school lunch.  The primary answers were: “healthy meals that were similar to what they ate at home.”
A school-wide recipe contest took place to encourage students to share their favorite healthy family recipe.  It was organized and coordinated by a student committee, parents and the assistant principal.  Students’ families were invited to submit recipes under the guidelines that the recipe must include: whole grains, dark green or orange vegetables (fresh or frozen) or dry beans or peas.
