USDA Truck rate report - Dec. 18

From the USDA's Truck Rate Report of Dec. 18:

A surplus of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: sweet potatoes from Atwater Livingston California, carrots and grapes from Kern District, grapes and kiwi from San Joaquin Valley California, mixed vegetables and citrus from Central & South Florida, tomatoes from Central Florida, citrus, avocados and mixed fruits and vegetables from Mexico Crossings Through Texas,and cabbage from San Antonio-Wintergarden District Texas. A slight shortage of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: melons and mixed vegetables from Mexico Crossings through Nogales, Arizona. A shortage of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: potatoes from San Luis Valley Colorado, potatoes from Upper Valley, Twin Falls-Burley District Idaho and Columbia Basin Washington, and onions from Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon. LAST REPORT was issued for potatoes from Northwestern Washington. All other districts reported an adequate supply of trucks.

Truck rate summary - Nov. 12

Winding up a great week in Costa Rica and thought I would post summaries of the usual USDA reports found on Fresh Talk. Looks like truck rates were variable this week, with some lower quotes but more areas showing increases. Here is the weekly truck rate summary from the USDA..


A shortage of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: onions from Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon. A slight shortage of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: potatoes from Upper Valley, Twin Falls-Burley District Idaho and for potatoes and onions from Columbia Basin Washington. A slight surplus of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: onions from North and East Points Colorado, potatoes from San Luis Valley Colorado, sweet potatoes from Louisiana and Mississippi. A surplus of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: mixed vegetables from Central & South Florida, tomatoes from Central Florida, tomatoes from West District, mixed vegetables from South Georgia, citrus, avocados and mixed fruits and vegetables from Mexico Crossings Through Texas. All other districts reported an adequate supply of trucks.

Truck Rate Report - Nov. 4

Truck rates are mostly stable to slightly lower this week. From the USDA's Truck Rate Report on Nov. 4:

A slight surplus of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: pears from Sacramento & San Joaquin Valley California, citrus, bell peppers and strawberries from South District California, potatoes from San Luis Valley Colorado, mixed vegetables from Central & South Florida, tomatoes from Central Florida, and tomatoes from West District Florida. A surplus of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: mixed vegetables from South Georgia, sweet potatoes from Louisiana and Mississippi, citrus, avocados and mixed fruits and vegetables from Mexico Crossings Through Texas. Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon noted a truck slight truck shortage for refers, adequate for flatbeds. FIRST REPORT was issued for mixed vegetables from Central & South Florida, tomatoes from Central Florida, nd tomatoes from West District Florida. LAST REPORT was issued for pears from acramento & San Joaquin Valley California, and cabbage from Northeast Colorado. All other districts reported an adequate supply of trucks.

Most rates are stable to down 5% or more. From the USDA Truck Rate Report:

A slight surplus of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: sweet potatoes from Atwater Livingston California, carrots and grapes from Kern District California, pears from Sacramento & San Joaquin Valley California, apple pears, grapes, peppers, apples, kiwi and lettuce from San Joaquin Valley California, lettuce, mixed vegetables, strawberries and raspberries from Salinas-Watsonville California, citrus, bell peppers and strawberries from South District California, and potatoes from San Luis Valley Colorado. A surplus of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: mixed vegetables from South Georgia, sweet potatoes from Louisiana and Mississippi, citrus, avocados and mixed fruits and vegetables from Mexico Crossings Through Texas and watermelons from Texas. Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon noted a truck shortage for refers, adequate for flatbeds. Truck rate report - Oct. 21

Truck rate decreases from 5% to 10% were common this week. From the USDA Truck Rate Report:

A slight surplus of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: lettuce, mixed vegetables, strawberries and raspberries from Salinas-Watsonville California, and potatoes from San Luis Valley Colorado. As diesel prices head lower, truck rates are under pressure. From the USDA weekly truck rate report, the Oct. 15 summary:

LAST REPORT was issued for onions from San Joaquin Valley California.FIRST REPORT was issued for onions from Michigan and potatoes from Long Island New York. All other districts reported an adequate supply of trucks.

National Truck Rate Report - Sept. 2

Diesel prices are falling and truck rates are softening. Life is not all bad for produce marketers. From the USDA's National Truck Rate Report:

A slight surplus of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: onions from North and East Points Colorado, and sweet potatoes from Mississippi. A surplus of trucks was reported for the following commodities and regions: peaches from South Carolina, citrus, avocados, mangoes, asparagus and mixed vegetables from Mexico Crossings Through Texas and watermelons from Texas. reported for the following commodities and regions: potatoes from Central Wisconsin. LAST REPORT was issued for potatoes from Delaware. FIRST REPORT was issued for onions
